The U.S. news publication NPR has this illustration for one of its articles. And the idea of a)household objects are now alive, b)the soap in particular is alive, plus c)the soap is emotionally overcome by you using him or her on you (just look at that face) all just freaks me out. Isn't this horrifying rather than funny?
What're your thoughts on living soap, specifically, and living household stuff, in general? What would that make your life into? A tragedy? A comedy? Both? Neither?

>>1182121The basic religious idea is called "animism," and it is one of the earliest conceptions of Deity that humans had (
https://www.britannica.com/topic/animism). It can be seen in Japan (Shintoism) a lot, I believe.
>>1182126This. It's cultural appropriation.

It's funny in Japan because they have the cultural history to provide context. If the idea starts appearing in the U.S., it will surely be westernized.
Obviously, if a bar of soap were sentient, it would be happy for you to use it as a bar of soap because it would be fully aware of its identity and function. To think otherwise is to project one's own mental state onto the spirit, which would make it sad.
I also found an interesting article on the history of soap:
https://abeautifulresistance.org/site/2022/11/1/soap-has-always-been-with-us-and-longer-still.
I think most soaps today aren't made of animals anymore, though. For example, sodium palmate (commonly found in soap) is a detergent made from palm oil.

I would first wonder if existence for them would be horrifying and it would be horrifying to be used as intended ... or if being used as intended brings them a sense of fulfillment and joy
