Do you think we will figure out how to eradicate Tropical Race 4 and/or CRISPR the Cavendish to make it immune before it is too late?

Oh no!  I hope the Cavendish doesn't suffer the same fate as the Gros Michel!

We couldn't wipe out measles with more than half a century of concentrated unified human effort and resources. It ain't happening.

Proof that a lot of unified effort and resources can be undone because humanity is still filled to the brim with braindead morons.

Genetically engineered bananas are already a thing in the Anglosphere, I think, and if there's so much money to be made by keeping at it, then logically companies will go on splicing those genes if there's profit to be had.

...the result of not living in harmony with nature. ..over-planting a single variety, soil degradation, not planting multiple different plants together that would be mutually beneficial ("Hong et al 2020 achieved significant suppression with a chilli pepper/banana rotation." - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panama_disease).... ...ponies looking to technology and innovation to help them - an over-reliance of which caused the problems to begin with - the cycle repeats

The "we" here is the problem in these sorts of statements.

The United States has wiped out a lot of diseases from itself as a country, with my memory telling me that it's like a dozen at the moment, but this doesn't apply to the world, particularly if we're talking about Asia and Europe (separated off by two oceans from the U.S., of course).

If "we" means "humanity", then I'm pretty sure that there are only two conditions that're gone. Smallpox being one of them like >>1185306 described.
