I've seen a lot of complaints about the Electoral College in the US, but France is really taking it to the next level here!

Dunno about France and their system, but the idea behind it in America at least is that you don't have the nation's politics ruled over by a small geographical segment of the nation. The population centers, in particular.

Fundamentally, there's no point in being part of a nation where you've no sway and they don't hold to your interests, after all.
If you want to keep a republic together, rather than only controlling those smaller but high-population zones, you're going to have to do something like this.
Else you inevitably get uprisings, rebellions, and the ilk.

It's been a weird week in politics. The results in the UK and France will see a breath of relief for those pushing back against right-wing bigotry.

You may get uprisings and rebellions anyway at some point.  It seems like an unsolvable problem.  In any coalition, those who are smaller and have less bargaining power are going to get shafted on deals, and attempting to appease those small groups with limited contribution is going to inevitably make the larger groups weary.

Maybe eventually, but it's certainly far lesser historically compared to prior systems.
It gives things an outlet, after all.  A pressure valve of sorts.

Like it is inside of other nations in Europe, French politics appears to be severely divided based on territorial region and what specific city is looked at.

Well, Brussels is not on fire yet.
And French people take their anger against their government very seriously.

I'm completely okay with fucking over the far-right. If 37% of people want to deny genocide and vilify anyone who's 'different' then that just means 63% of people don't. No sense dragging them in a direction they're opposed to.

That being said, if we were talking about anyone except the far-right this would be bullshit and I would be concerned. I just really fucking hate the right wing.

Whether they're in Austria, France, Germany, Switzerland, or whatever other place in Europe, to be truly honest, my instinct is to just go "fuck those people".

Eight decades after World War II and the Holocaust. It's long past time to pretend that there isn't a clear moral line between good and evil. Freedom and tyranny. Love and hate. Progress and regression. Yeah.

If I'm truly, deeply honest, after reading accounts of those who participated in the Nazi oppression directly such as the excellent but haunting book 'The German War', then I kind of wish there was some way that the conflict had worked out differently so that Berlin could've gotten nuked as well as those two major cities in Japan. Because the Berliners deserved it. They seriously did. Anybody with any doubts should spend just a few minutes looking up the screenshot's aforementioned group: the SS.

With European far right, there is a clear reason why they are so popular.
It is however frustrating that you can't have a legit party that brings forth their valid points, while staying away from blatant Nazi apologizing, Putin cock sucking or diving into archaeo-conservative talking points.

I realize that an important part of maturity and getting older is recognizing that a gigantic percentage of both Americans and Europeans think that Hitler and the historical Nazis were unfairly demonized. And you just have to accept this fact. Nothing will decrease the raw total of those large numbers. Same as accepting something like losing your hair, your joints hurting, bad breath coming upon you, and the like. I guess. Still. It just fucking sucks.
