Why do humans live next to volcanos, like with basically everywhere this occuring throughout the history of time?

Couldn't you literally just choose to not be besides volcanoes?

This seems like something that the human species collectively should learn at some point?

Isn't that a slow-moving volcano that doesn't do any damage?

I would say that the reason is probably that the first people to live next to them didn't know they erupted, and then by then they had already gotten used to living next to them. Maybe the nearby villages thought they were far enough away from the last eruption so they stayed, but then a bigger eruption happened ...family traditions and stories would tie people to the area ...infrequent eruptions would mean that stories about them might become legends or people wouldn't think one would happen in their lifetime....

Lastly, many people don't understand science or they value tradition more than science ...and even if they could be convinced to move, there is the money issue. Unless they are moving to a better location and have it paid for by humans generally, then they are probably going to stay where their family and traditions are.

I can maybe understand the accounts of things that happened literally decades and decades ago being ignored or dismissed. Especially when you bring up tradition.

Hardest thing for me is a volcano erupting earlier in the year 2024 and then the same people during the end of the year 2024 being shocked at it happening again. Talk about short memories if they can't even last longer a few months.

As far as natural disasters go, volcanos are pretty uncommon, and not even that lethal.

I'd happily take a volcano every few centuries over a regular yearly hurricane, or hell, monthly tornados.

But it's literally a thing that erupted a few months ago.

This feels like it's as if I sit down next to a gigantic pit bull, I annoy it by trying to pet it without it wanting that, I have the pit bull bite my hand, and then I literally a minute afterwards go to pet it again in the most irritating way possible.

It's hard for me to accept this level of disregarding the past when it's literally just a moment ago.

Alright. And how regularly does it blow, otherwise?

This is very a good question, and the smattering of news articles that I've seen that I remember appear to describe six eruptions happening in the past four years, counting what just happened as well as these including calm-ish situations where not that much material got actually squirted out.

I'm aware that "six in a period of four years" can be converted by easy and simple math to "???? per year", but I'm too mentally fried at the moment to do that, honestly.

Feel free to check this for yourself, using other news agencies if you want, of course.
