Of course he's a villan. He's in a family friendly cartoon and rather than give some big speech about his evil intentions he just whips out the glock and threatens to shoot our heroes dead.. And all without saying a single word.

He's just got that aura.

The campaign is pretty cool so far. I really like how the stuff in the background will actually come out of the woodwork to attack you. I was watching this pack of Nids running around and thought to myself "Oh they're just there to make the swarm look bigger.." And two seconds later they hopped the debris piled up and I was surrounded. It was definitely an "Oh shit!" moment.

Hot take: Is it me or are tyranids kind of cute? Despite the teeth and burrowing flesh-eating ammunition they spew upon the enemy, I really want to keep one. It's better than getting a pitbull, and if it feels a synaptic connection to you; is less likely to turn on you.

Why do extraterrestrial characters want to grab victims, including f**king Hellboy of all the dudes in the world, and probe their rear ends?

Why is this a common topic in not just horror pieces but across fiction? Why would aliens do this? Is this actually fun in some way?

A few assemblies I've used required them. They're weird. But they work.

I think the locking nuts for aluminum extrusions are pretty rad.
Basically turn any point on that extrusion into a secure point of contact, no holes no welds required.

I have a feeling there will be androids who don't mind humans using robots as tools, and they themselves will use robots for tools and service, under the believed status as "I am an android, and they are a robot. You humans regard horses, donkeys and oxen as beasts of burden, all the while keep cats, dogs and other lesser animals to comfort and amuse you. You also eat cow, sheep and pigs for nourishment. If humans can take such advantages of lesser living mammals with no objection from them, then androids can take advantage of robots."

I imagine robots with near-advance AI to be regarded as androids would be a grey area, though. Maybe androids would establish their own caste system.

 No.1177870

Oh, want an AI related prediction? Things will continue as they have for decades. AI literally has a seasonal cycle which so far has happened so consistently that it's got its own special names for the phases. There's the MAD HYPE following a particular development which pumps an incredible bubble of an AI Summer which then bursts in a shower of unfulfilled promises and disappointment as the tech hits a brick wall of the limits of the current approach, and that transitions us to an AI Winter where the term itself becomes toxic and the whole space becomes mostly dormant with nobody serious who wants anything to do with it, except for the only people who slowly work towards creating the new big thing that will set off the next AI Summer, while still a few developments of the previous one end up sticking around.

This Summer's crop will be the pretty neat translation software that might be good enough for the casual tourist. Also probably some applications in pattern detection, as well as better handling of boilerplate nonsense. The big winners though will end up being the makers of propaganda bots and faked deceptive imagery, as well as the purveyors of slop. All in all, an unimpressive harvest but whatever, we'll see what happens next Summer.

Gen 5 appears to be on its way out.  Maybe this is a good time to talk about what made Gen 4 so hugely better than the other generations of MLP, with an eye toward helping to bring an equally great G6 into being.  Here are two major factors:

1. Poetic but hard-nosed and consistent world-building for a world of horses from Faust and the other early showrunners.  No sticky hooves.  No electricity.  No motors.  Trains pulled by ponies.  Mouthtools.  Typewriters with only two keys.  A richly fantastic world, but one that incorporates madness, disease, war, blood, bodily functions, birth, and death.  The pure initial world picture tended to get messed up as the show wore on and things like go-carts and pianos crept in, but it started out clean and beautiful.

2. Archetypes.  Two semi-divine beings, larger than other ponies: a goddess of sunlight and a goddess of darkness and dreams.  Three races, corresponding to the three castes of Indian society and Indo-European myth: magical shamans, warriors, peasants.  Archetypal characters representing the shy willowy female, the bold androgyne, the mad trickster god, the amorous, male-manipulating vamp, and so on.  Extensive and explicit incorporation of mythologies from all over the world.

What else?

>worldbuilding discussions

Ponies should be able to use human-ish computers easily because there would just be at your local electronics store a mouse designed for a single hoof, which you rest on top of the device easily and slide around gently without any problem...

You wouldn't even need a keyboard! Just have a modified mouse! And voice-based software helping as well!

rip G5. Maybe I'll watch more than one or two episodes of it someday now that all the hype over it is gone.

The last I heard (which was quite a long time ago), Lauren Faust stopped watching MLP after she stopped working on it because she didn't like other people playing with the ponies she created. (Hasbro wouldn't let her (or others, presumably to some extent at least, as well) play with her ponies, either.) I don't know if she ever changed her mind.
